It happened on the 1600 block of West Hunting Park Avenue just before 7:40 a.m. on March 28, city police told Daily Voice. The victim was walking with another individual when the four suspects approached them from behind, as seen in surveillance footage released by the department.
As the group follows, one suspect is seen with a handgun. The video then cuts to show all four men fleeing the scene on foot.
Investigators believe the group tried to rob the victim before shooting him once in the chest. The boy, identified by police as Devin Weeden of West Philadelphia, was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:14 a.m., the department said.
No weapon has been recovered and no arrests have been made, police said. The four suspects are described as follows:
- Suspect one is said to be a black man wearing a black-over-gray Nike hooded jacket with a white stripe, black pants with a yellow “Ferrari” logo on the upper right thigh, white socks, color shoes, and a dark mask. He was armed with a handgun.
- Suspect two is said to be a black man wearing a black hoodie with a red design on the front and “PARADOX” written on the back, black pants, athletic shoes with white and black markings and red heels.
- Suspect three is said to be a black man wearing a black hoodie with the District Council 33 logo on the left chest, black pants, black-and-white Adidas shoes, and a camouflage patterned mask.
- Suspect four is said to be a black man wearing a puffy winter coat with a “Guess” logo on the left upper shoulder over a green hoodie, black pants, orange socks, dark colored shoes, a dark colored mask, and a red Phillies hat under his hood.
